The football world watched as Leeds United took on Liverpool at Elland Road this evening in the first Premier League match since the revelation of controversial European Super League plans.

Liverpool are one of six Premier League clubs to have signed up to the new competition – sending shockwaves through English football and accusations of greed and self-interest.

The strength of feeling directed at the deposed Premier League champions, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea has created some unlikely alliances.

Never more so than this evening as Aston Villa fans tuned in hoping for a Leeds United victory.

Villa’s hopes of catching Jurgen Klopp’s men have dimmed, unless more Champions and Europa League places become available given recent developments, but their anger at the ‘big six’ has not.

Villa fans have taken to social media as Leeds drew 1-1.

@SMcConnell6: Get in Leeds!! #avfc #lufc
