Manchester United fans have responded to Frank Lampard’s sacking at Chelsea.

The former England international and Derby County boss was relieved of his duties by Roman Abramovic on Monday morning and is expected to be replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

Abramovic said: “This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.

“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances, we believe it is best to change managers.

“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”

Lampard leaves Chelsea with the club ninth in the Premier League table, five points behind fourth-place Liverpool despite spending over £200million in the summer window.

Many United fans have seen Lampard’s departure of vindication of the club’s decision to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with United challenging for the Premier League title, whilst Chelsea have struggled in comparison.

As a result, United fans have been quick to point out how Solskjaer has outlasted Lampard, with Chelsea fans and sections of the media suggesting that would not be the case.

Chelsea trail Manchester United by 11 points and have only beaten one team in the top half of the table this season, whilst United have beaten Liverpool, Aston Villa, Everton and West Ham since November.

United beat Chelsea three times last season including a Premier League double. The two teams played out a 0-0 draw earlier this season at Old Trafford.
